Kate's Reasons Why Not.....
You're obviously new to BtN! Pretty much everyone here, safe to say, hates, or, rather, DESPISES boy's names on girls. I like them to an extent (like Mackenzie, McKenna/Makenna, Charley, et cetera), but Ryan, for me, is going too far-- almost to the point of cruelty. Maybe in a different time Ryan will be accepted and acceptable for a girl, but not this year. Ryan is VERY popular for boys right now, and "TrYNNdeE" for girls, so there are many more male Ryans than female Ryans. I met a 1-year-old girl names Evan last month. And it just didn't fit. I felt stupid calling her Evan. Her Mum, Erin, said 'This is my daughter, Evan", and my Mum goes "Is it a boy? A girl? Her name is Evan?". I was mortified when she said this, as we had only just met these people and were sitting down to lunch to discuss a business deal with them. But, it is understandable. Evan is SO popular for boys these days, that people naturally just assume any child named Evan will be a boy. What's more, it IS a boy's name. And, bottomline, Ryan is a boys name. Although boys names have been converted to girl in the past (like Courtney, Ashley, et cetera), I think that this one is a little TOO masculine sounding. I saw a birth announcement for a "Ryan Olivia" the other day. It just looked and sounded wrong. That kid is going to grow up with some very trendy names! So (sorry to rant!), my opinion is that it should not be used as a girl's name. Maybe-- MAYBE-- a girl's middle name, but I would never (suggest) using it a a FN. Sorry to call ya' nieve, but I've learned to keep some of my opinions to myself on these boards, and these are a lot of things I've observed. :) If Adelle was here, she'd slip!-Kathryn (aka Kate)
P.s.-- While we're on the subject, I'll use some of my faves above Ryan! I'll try to make it more feminine, though. Oh! And there's always Ryana!.....
