Re: Looking for more cruel names
What constitutes a "cruel name" is so culturally specific :') The names listed are just vintage English or foreign (to the US I'm assuming?). Personally, I wouldn't blink twice at any of those. I agree that "cruel names" are ones that strip a child of their dignity. Others that come to mind is a boy named "Sanitizer" and twins, "Covid & Corona," during the pandemic. Aside from that, names that strike me as "inconsiderate" are common names with "unique" spellings, like "Toughkneigh" pronounced "Tony." Less extreme examples would be anything that replaces a "ck" with an "x" or an "ie/y" with "eigh" for absolutely no reason other being convoluted.Unusual names I like, but wouldn't use (for a child):Floris Anatole (more or less translates to "flowering sunrise/prosperous dawn")
Ehrengard Godelieve ("honorable beloved/guarded love")
Caelestis Merce ("heavenly mercies")
Salvatrix Wiltrud ("saving will")
Winter Rein (sounds like "winter rain" with the meaning of "sobre counsel")
Balendin Asier ("new strength/powerful beginning")

Thanks so much! I love those names!
I totally agree with what you said and I didn't mean to offend anyone with my wording. These are just the names that I've had people call me cruel for considering. The amount of Ethel hate I've heard is bizarre!
Oh, no offense caused :) it was really a comment on my own thought process of what would be a "cruel" name. A name that is very unusual and difficult to pronounce where a person actually lives could definitely be inconsiderate, even if it's a classic name elsewhere. I agree, Ethel hate is bizarre to me, but it's based on people's own associations. I'm naming babies and I don't even tell anyone my choices, because people criticise based on *their* experiences, not mine. I'm at a point where having a name I love called "cruel" just gives manipulation. It's so subjective and the only opinion that really matters is mine [serene emoji]
