I immediately thought of
Simon, which means "he listens/hears" but perhaps that's not direct enough?
Some other options:
Abdiel "Servant of God" (implying that he does what God tells him)
Elioenai "my eyes look to God"
Jaasiel "God is my maker"
Reuel "friend of God"
