The first Dan-yell I met was Danyel, and I thought Danyel was the common spelling and Danielle was an extra frilly version. Same with Mikayla, I thought Michaela was intriguing and exotic when I first saw it (I could tell it was a feminine form of Michael but didn't know how to pronounce it)
