Names you HATE but love the nicknames?
Or names you're ok with, but prefer the nicknames or diminutives more instead?
Inspired by a recent post.
Here are some of mine:
Pete to Peter (If Peter didn't constantly remind me of the inappropriate slang term, I'd maybe like it more. Nothing against it besides that though. Still, I've always preferred its nickname.
Sal to Salvatore
Sam to Samuel, Samson, Sampson etc
Kim to Kimberly
Becca to Rebecca (Although I FAR prefer it to "Becky" when it comes to being a nn)
Jenna to Jennifer (I honestly like both but
prefer Jenna more and would of course choose it instead.
Jonie to Joan (Joan is musty and dated. Jonie seems more friendly and livelier)
Kate to Katelyn/Kaitlyn etc. (Seems more common where I'm from as opposed being a short for Catherine/Katherine/Kathryn, which I wouldn't mind. I actually would choose it over Kate.
Lucy to Lucille, Lucina, Lucia, Luncinda, Luella, Etc etc (especially for the last 2)
Charlie to Charles (Nothing against Charles. Very classic, respectable name. I just always preferred the look and sounf of the nn instead)
Finn to Finnegan, Finley etc (Don't like these ones at all. Far prefer just Finn)
Josh to Joshua (Ok I know I'm going to be in the minority here and I have nothing against Joshua itself. I just prefer the sound of Josh more as opposed to the "Oo-ə" ending.
Raimi to Raymond & Ray (Although if I had to pick a "full-version name" that didn't sound so, well, nickname-y, I'd probably go with Raymundo.
Sid to Sidney
Wes to Wesley, Weston, Wesson etc (FAR prefer Wes)
Brad to Bradley (FAR prefer Brad)
Edie to Edith
Jake to Jacob
Billy to Bill (even though I know it's technically a short form of William on itself)
Georgie to George
Tris to Beatrice
Tilly & Tilda to Matilda
Penny to Penelope
And that's probably enough examples. Love to hear some of yours. (:

I prefer the name Cassie over the name Cassandra. I do not like the sound of "Sandra", it's dusty and lacks the clarity and sharpness that Cassie has.
Effie is adorable but I cannot picture an actual person named Euphemia.
I love Tess but I don’t love Theresa.
