It just seems a bit old-fashioned to me. I've never met one under the age of 60. Theodora has the same meaning and name elements and is a bit more timeless in my opinion.

I think Dorothy will make a comeback one day. Maybe not a huge one, but a bit of a rise, to go along with names like Vera and Irene and Helen.
I knew/know two Dorothys - both older, they'd be in their 70s now I think, or nearly. One was my childhood best friend's mom, the other the boss at one of my first jobs. Neither Dorothy was a particularly nice person, but it hasn't put me off the name - I just think of Dorothy as a very stern, un-fun sort of name, perpetually elderly, like Gertrude or Margaret. Neither Dorothy had a nickname, they were always D O R O T H Y.
I like Dorothy for its literary connections - I love that it is so very, very Midwest farmer sensible but it has its head in the clouds. It's sort of plodding and dorky ("DORTHY" is how I say it, very ungraceful - "dora-thee" is much prettier but unnatural for me to say) but it wants to be light as a feather. Something about Dorothy tugs on my heartstrings, and I would use it in a heartbeat. Plus, I love all the nicknames - Dolly, Dot, Dodie, Dora, Dory, etc.
With that literary aspect in mind, I'd combo it like....
Dorothy Alice - Alice Dorothy would be better
Dorothy Scarlett
Dorothy Scout? I can't get into Scout as a given name
Dorothy Ramona
Dorothy Lucy Maud

It's okay I guess. Nothing big or special. I can't imagine it on anybody past age 25 though.

I don't like it well enough to use it, but it's not too bad. It's got a pleasant, calm, friendly vibe to it, like you know a Dorothy wouldn't be really demonstrative or bubbly, but she'd put your mind at ease and not get flustered or out of sorts. A Dorothy would make a good nurse or dental assistant.
I had a minor exchange of paint with another driver last year, and the other driver was named Dorothy. She was probably 25. Youngest Dorothy I ever met.
