Aurora
I realized I have a crush on Aurora! I appreciate its classical background, positive meaning, and connection to Aurora Karamzin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurora_Karamzin) whom I studied in my bachelor's theses (well, both of my theses focused more on her niece, countess Marie Linder, but I became familiar with Madame Karamzin's life as well in the process). Also, I have an ancestress named Amanda Aurora, so there's an honoring aspect to me as well. The only problem is that if I ever have a daughter, I can't use Aurora as a first name because I have a cousin named Aura. And though I'm fine with using Aurora as a middle name, I think it's too beautiful a name to be hidden in the middle name slot. Also, I don't know any good nicknames to Aurora: Rory is cute in the anglophone context, but in Finland it sounds a bit awkward. So, what do you think about Aurora? And what is your opinion of the Finnish pronunciation of it (OW-ro-rah, instead of ə-RAWR-ə in English)?Formerly known as Remora L.

I love Aurora, it's often in my top 3 or at least top 5. I like both Rory and Ari as NNs =) I've never heard the Finnish pronunciation before but, while it sounds okay, it doesn't seem like it would work here in Australia.

One of my favorites lately, too.

This is my SO's favourite name. He is desperately trying to convince me of it. I do like it. It is whimsical, and I love the connection both to the Roman goddess and to the Northern Lights. I think it just sounds a little clunky in English. I prefer the French version: Aurore. So, I also prefer the Finnish pronunciation to the English. There are very few, if any, words and names that sound better in English, in my opinion. As for nicknames, I like Rorie, Rora, Aura (obviously no good for you), Aurie, Rorie-o, and Oreo.

I forgot about Aurore, I also like it much more than Aurora.

Not too bad of a name, if you look past the Disney Princess. I wouldn’t recommend using Rory as a nickname due to it being a masculine name by itself, but maybe use Rora? And the Finnish pronunciation is alright. I sorta like it better than the English one.
