Re: Alys
in reply to a message by HB
I don't like Alice, but I do like Alys a lot.
The not-liking-Alice makes Alys unusable for me as a first name - because people would hear it and picture Alice, and that'd bother me.
People might see it as a creative spelling, and for me, it would be. But I don't care, it's not *that* creative even so. No more creative than Alyson or Madelyn. And less so because hey, you can look it up and see it's an "official" form.
It's as teachable as any alternate spelling. People have to teach each other how to spell their names all the time - Elisabeth with an S, Catherine with a C, Maya vs Maia ... it's really no biggie.- mirfak

Your first point occurred to me after my post. People are going to still see it as Alice with the associations.my problem is that there are so many amazing I was just out there and I wish I could like it just because of them. Alice Roosevelt, Alice Walker, Alice Munro, Alice Liddell, Alice Hoffman, my great-aunt, a female minister I knew. all these powerful, intelligent women and yet my name gives off of vibe of being weak and vapid.

Sorry for the errorsI really cannot use voice to text unless I have an account and can edit my post. And I don't want a account. So I guess I'm going to have to just go to the computer or use the keyboard.
