I don't like
Alice, but I do like
Alys a lot.
The not-liking-Alice makes
Alys unusable for me as a first name - because people would hear it and picture
Alice, and that'd bother me.
People might see it as a creative spelling, and for me, it would be. But I don't care, it's not *that* creative even so. No more creative than
Alyson or
Madelyn. And less so because hey, you can look it up and see it's an "official" form.
It's as teachable as any alternate spelling. People have to teach each other how to spell their names all the time -
Elisabeth with an S,
Catherine with a C,
Maya vs
Maia ... it's really no biggie.
