I'm blown away that Eleanor is so popular in the US. I really like the name but it doesn't seem mainstream because it's so severe... sort of proudly unpretty. But Abigail seems the same way. Ah, what people will do for Abbie and Ellie. Anyway, I prefer Eleanor in full but just thought of the nickname Elna, which is just so ugly it's almost charming. Nellna is even worse.

I always thought that the only reason Abigail is so common is because of the nickname Abby. I've never known one who went by her full name and I have known so many.

I know two little Abigails that are called just Abigail. I agree, Abby is much better! Not that I dislike Abigail, it's just certainly not something I'd want to use in its entirety.

I think Nellna might work better Nelna if you like that kind of name.
