I think the meaning is really fun, especially seeing it pop up in history on redheads, but I think it's pretty silly sounding.
It also reminds me of James Franco in the movie Never Been Kissed because he keeps trying to use "rufus" as a cool new word, meaning like cool or awesome, and it does not catch on.
