So sick of celebrities naming their kid Bowie. (m)
So, Tess Holliday, a model, had a baby boy recently and named him Bowie Juniper. Zoe Saldana also has a son named Bowie, and some dude in People magazine I never heard of also named his son Bowie. I just don't get it. I know David Bowie was cool, but IT SOUNDS STUPID. I imagine shouting it in a crowded supermarket, and I laugh. I know celebrities give their kids weird names and that this is nothing new, but I seriously wish everyone would stop with the stupid Bowie trend. Jagger, too. In fact, I'm just waiting for the GIRL twins named Bowie and Jagger to be born. *sigh* "And by the way, dearie, your punctuation sucks canal water!"

They can sit in the corner with Hendrix and Lennon.

Somewhat OT, maybe totally OT, but a couple of days ago in our local paper I saw a three-year-old boy named Juniper with a very traditional MN but I can't remember what. Thomas? William? Anyway I never had seen Juniper on a boy. Now that seems silly to me.

There are already celebrity girl children named Jagger, so yeah, that's happening eventually I bet. I complained about this before. http://www.behindthename.com/bb/baby/4723160 Actually, it was Tess Holliday's BA, so there you go. Heh.

Sorry. Didn't see that. :P

Oh don't apologize; we should occasionally talk about how unoriginal celebrities can be.
I'm just saying I said it before it was cool! #hipster #tbt #nofilter

Bowie's probably going to end up in one of our kids names. Bowie was always a huge part of my SO's life, it was something that his mother, who died when he was very young, was able to pass on to him. We got matching Aladdin Sane tattoos the day Bowie died. And idk, I think it'd be a cute middle name.

I agree. I liked David Bowie, but Bowie is a SURNAME. And it wasn't even David Bowie's original name. He took it from the Bowie knife.
Even Ziggy is better than Bowie. Or why not simply use David? It's a sweet name.
Jagger isn't good either.

I hate both of the names but I dislike Jagger more than Bowie. Jagger sounds so violent and ugly and when it is used on females, it is even worse. I just can't imagine referring to a little girl as Jagger. I know a female Bowie in real life. She is about 7 now, so her parents were definitely ahead of the curve there. Her Dad is a musician and her mother is a music teacher though and they're both kind of cool but without being stereotypically any kind of subset/fashion (e.g. hipster, super alternative, rocker etc). I haven't discussed it with them but I'm sure they're a bit peeved with the trendiness of it now! I always thought it sounded kind of ugly and stupid on her even though she is a great kid and not silly at all. They do call her Bo for short occasionally so I've just taken to calling her Bo all the time and that suits her much better IMO. Her little brother is called Harrison, I assume for George Harrison although I've never asked.

I assume they were named after Jim Bowie, so I shout, "Remember the Alamo!" and then I feel better.

I think Jim Bowie's name was pronounced BOO-ee.
But I like your idea anyway.

True, but then maybe some of the parents using Bowie are pronouncing it BOO-ee.

I always hear it in my head as BOO-ee at first because I have a friend from Bowie, Maryland and that's how they say it.

Hi !!!You are right.
They are too trendy to be serious... poor David Bowie.Maybe Bowie is nice for a pet...less for a baby.Jagger is simply horrible for everything.Byeeeeeee

I feel like this upsurge in celebrity kids named Bowie is probably to pay tribute to David Bowie since he died earlier this year. But you're right...I'm getting sick of it too. It'll probably die down in a year or two.I never understood the appeal of Jagger. It doesn't sound like a name at all, and it makes me think of jägerbombs.

Shhh, somebody's sure to hear you and think Jagger and Bowie makes a good pairing.
I'm sick of it too. Jagger is such an ugly sound, like a rusty knife blade stuck into you, and Bowie? Well, if you call it out, you end up sounding like yo're just calling for "Boy."
