I think Rose is a lovely name and it makes a very pretty first name. It's not common as a first name these days either, which adds to the appeal.

Rose is lovely as a first name. I've only ever met one.

I love it. Unfortunately I can't use it as both of my husband's uncles have ex-wives called Rose!

Rose is indeed simple and has history. As for suiting anyone, do you mean any age? Because I think it wouldn't really suit a grumpy abrasive person. It's so soft and gentle feeling. I do agree that it goes well with unusual middle names.

I agree with just about everything you said except that I'd be more likely to pair Rose with Anastasia or something along those lines. It's nice to see it used as a fn. There's an actress who recently named her dd Rose and I'm hoping she'll inspire others to consider Rose for the fn name position rather than relegating it to the middle.

My niece is named Rose Elaine. I think it's a pretty name, of not my style. Rose Artemisia is cool but I think Rose Artemis would be cooler.

I love it, and wish more people would use it as a first name while avoiding it as a middle name, as it has become trite and overused as such.

I like it a lot. It's still a little bit antique seeming (in the US anyway) and wants another decade or two to be youthful again IMO. I guess that's not true in the UK, where it is becoming popular as a baby name.

As a name (not really on impression of a person named it), I think it's so loaded with symbolism and history that it could be positively grave. But it's proud enough, and floral enough, to be bright, not dark. It's a power-name, disguised as a pretty-flower-name. I'll never stop feeling like it is a little bit stately or matronly, even if it does become fashionable. But since it's a flower name, that doesn't matter!

I recognize Artemisia as the name of a plant. So that combo is a bit much for me. How about Rose Demetria, Rose Apollonia, Rose Eugenia, Rose Octavia, Rose Ariadne, Rose Athena?

Rose is very pretty, and less overdone as a first name than as a middle. I wouldn't want a really fancy middle name: Rose Artemisia is pretty puffed-up and sounds a bit like exotic perfume. But Rose Amanda, Rose Carlotta, Rose Dionne, Rose Lorraine, Rose Patricia ...
