I'm not so fond of the name, but I much prefer it on girls.

I find it a bit trendy and somewhat tacky at the moment, esp. as a fn, and ESPECIALLY on a girl. It's tolerable as a mn, for a boy, but only if it has some special meaning to you, or better yet it's a family surname.

I absolutely LOVE the name PHoenix for either gender. Sadly this is one name i've noticed popping up a lot over the past few weeks. I believe it will make it in the top 100. NO :(

I like the name Phoenix. It could go either way but sounds more boyish imo.

I think Phoenix is too... Well, the same thing that it would be to name someone Unicorn. While the idea is lovely, it's too much of a word to me which is why it comes off a little bit tacky, even though I love phoenixes. It's got too much of a "trashy fantasy novel" touch to it. It could work as a middle name, though.

I don't really have a gender preferance to the name Phoenix. In Chinese Mythology they were usually associated to women and femininity, though.

Far better for a girl. I'm normally an open-minded namer, but vocabulary names on boys ... they just don't do it for me. Girls' names are traditionally more ornamental, and the mystical notion of the phoenix is just more fitting on a female, to me.
