I don't like the name, but I prefer the Alison spelling because it seems less like a surname.Now that I think of it, maybe that's one reason I far prefer my name the way I spell it, Janice, to Janis. Janis is a surname.

it is?I never saw Janis as a surname. Janos, yes, it's Jesse Ventura's real surname. I actually did see a character in a book with the last name Janice.
Janis just looks too much like phonetic spelling.

There is a musician and actor named Conrad Janis. I looked it up, and that was the surname he was born with, not an assumed name. Because I was aware of this as his surname, I've occasionally looked to see if there is anyone with the surname Janis in the phone book and I've found a few.
