Agnes!
Agnes is the name of the day!I don't know what it is about Agnes, but it is really growing on me. I don't know if it's because it's the name of the ancestor I can trace back the farthest to (an Agnès in 17th century France), or what, but it has a bewitching quality. Like, it's so ugly I can't stop looking at it and now it's become endearing.I know Agnes isn't a fan favourite, and I respect that. But if you can stomach it, please comment on some combos I've crafted for this knobbly little name. And suggest some too, if you'd like!Agnes Lavinia (the ultimate in witchiness, and Lavinia is another ugly family name I've grown fond of)
Agnes Lily
Agnes Ivy
Agnes Charlotte
Agnes Emily
Agnes Clementine
Agnes Cybele (too OTT witchy?)
Agnes Gwendoline
Agnes Elowen
Agnes Oriole (there is something so lewd about this combo, it gives me the giggles)
Agnes Tabitha

I have such respect for Agnes. It is a classic name. However, I don't think I could use on a flesh and blood child. My husband is disappointed by this; he likes the name. There's something particularly charming to me about Agnes Ivy and something pleasantly intense about Agnes Elowen. Agnes Clementine is so classic and heavy on Church history references, so it screams to my inner nerd. She answers.

The name grew on me after seeing Agnes Towler in The Paradise. She's definitely not dowdy which is sort of how I saw the name previously. But, I was always on the fence about it not against it so it just pushed me over the fence versus giving me a 180.

I do not like Agnes. But I do like some of the combos:
Agnes Lavinia (embrace those family names!)
Agnes Ivy
Agnes Cybele
Agnes Elowen
Agnes TabithaI feel like any girl with this name is going to be called Aggie, though.

My mom has a sister named Agnes. Also, my mom has two brothers who both married women named Agnes. So I grew up with three aunts named Agnes. Then I married my husband and got an in-law Aunt Agnes. What are the odds?Of the four of them, two go by Aggie and two by Agnes. So to me, Agnes is for women in their 60s. I've never really thought of it any other way. If I try to imagine it on a baby or little girl, I think Ness or Nessie or Essie would be adorable nicknames. Agnes Lily
Agnes Charlotte
Agnes Emily
and Agnes Tabitha
are my favourites of your list.
Agnes Clementine is pretty good too.

In college, there was a girl in our program named Agnes. All the guys called her Angus cow behind her back. This was not about her physique, she was super fit. Anyway, that's what I think of.I also don't care for the Aaagh sound at the beginning. It's a little harsh to my ears.

Well....I'm basically with you. I think it's ugly yet it has some charm. I suppose I'm a little biased towards it because it was my paternal grandmother's name. I remember when, before I'd had my second child, I was discussing possible names for a future second child with my mother-in-law, and was discussing possible honoring names for a second girl. She asked me what my grandmothers' names were. When I said "Agnes", there was a strong negative reaction, a face and an "Oooh, nooo!" And this would only have been a possible middle name. So even though Agnes was not and is not a big favorite, I felt rather impatient with the automatic knee-jerk negative reaction that so many people have towards it, the way that they can only focus on the sounds and not think of its history and see some of its charm. So of your combos, my favorites are:Agnes Lavinia (I love Lavinia)
Agnes Clementine
Agnes Elowen
Agnes Tabitha (also love Tabitha)

Well, firstly I wouldn't ever consider Agnès to be an 'ugly' name!
Especially the French way, which is the only way I ever pronounce it, seeings as I'm half French.
In France it is pronounced Ahn-ye-z.
I'm not yet thirteen so I'm not thinking about kids lol but I've sort of picked out Agnés Jeanne as the name for one of my daughters. I'm not too sure about some of your combinations, but then again I can't imagine Agnès with a hard G sound!PS I know that this is kinda stupid seeings as I've just posted it online but people who see this post, I REALLY hope this doesn't make Agnès really popular because I still want it to be a special name in ten years when I'm ready to have kids!!!! LOL!

I admit I wasn't the biggest fan of Agnes, but since meeting the most adorable little girl with the name, it has really grown on me. My real life little Agnes is about five years old, with massive blue eyes and long, thick, curly blonde hair, she is very shy but so cute; her big sister is Isobel. From your combos I like Agnes Lily, Agnes Ivy and Agnes Tabitha.Personally I would love to pair Agnes with...
Agnes Eleanor
Agnes Skye
Agnes Brooke
Agnes Amber
Agnes Kimberly
Agnes Olivia
Agnes Ember
Agnes Elena
Agnes Rae
Agnes Freya
Agnes Georgina
Agnes Juno
Agnes Lara
Agnes Matilda:)

I loved Agnes after I saw that movie.. (Despicable Me maybe?) Where there are two little girls called Margot and Agnes. So adorable. Anyway..Agnes Lavinia- meh, I'd prefer Liviana
Agnes Lily- gorgeous!
Agnes Ivy- spunky
Agnes Charlotte- I don't like the s and c together in the middle, it doesn't flow well.
Agnes Emily- cute
Agnes Clementine- urgh I hate Clementine. It's a non-name to me.
Agnes Cybele- too weird. Her first name is already Agnes which while cute is a little different these days. Be kind to her with a more normal mn
Agnes Gwendoline- don't like Gwendoline
Agnes Elowen- sounds too willowy to me
Agnes Oriole- don't ever do this to a child.
Agnes Tabitha- cute, very homely and motherly. My favourite is easily Agnes Lily

Margot, Edith and Agnes! I love Despicable Me, definitely improved all three names in my opinion :)

Don't worry, none of these are for real people. Just playing around!I do wonder if the Despicable Me franchise will increase Agnes's allure at all. I kind of hope so!I also thought of Agnes Caroline as an alternative to Agnes Charlotte - better or just as clunky? These were great comments. Thanks so much!

Agnes Caroline is much better! The C sound is harder which I like. I think the soft ch is too much like the s at the end of Agnes.
