Eli, with a French pronounciation, is quite common in the North American-Middle East community, I know two or three, and my husband's late brother was named Eli.
So I'm familiar with it, and find it a good name. I also like the English pronounciation.
I don't think Eli honours Elizabeth, though I see where that's coming from.
