Well, seeing as how it's a cat, and cats rarely ever admit to even having a name, much less whether the name is used for the opposite sex cat (and cats never suffer from gender confusion issues) and considering that I don't happen to think that pets ever need "full" names, and also taking into account the fact that
Leo means lion .... I don't see anything wrong with it. It could also be that
Leo's people couldn't tell if she was a male or female as a kitten (sometimes tricky) and by the time they found out differently,
Leo had already stuck.
Edited: However,
Leo does not make a good name for a female human. On a human it sounds like something
Leona would insist on being called as a moody, self-styled "tomboy" teenager, to be contrary, and would eventually grow out of.
