I think Devon is a better girl name. I say it and hear it differently from Devin.
Devon = DEV-un, rhyme Evan. Devin = DEV-in, rhyme Kevin. If I saw Devon on a boy I might think DEE-VAWN, like it's one of the De- prefixed black names. That'd be better than Devon DEV-un on a boy, IMO. I prefer Devin over Devon on a boy, but I don't care for Devin much either because it reminds me of the word devil, and feels sort of mean and cold. I like Devon on a girl, and I think I wouldn't have liked it if I hadn't met a female Devon. It's nice, sounds balanced and pretty and place-namey. I know a lot of people say Devon and Devin the same, but as long as I know her name is spelled Devon I'm somehow okay with it.

I agree, it reminds me of the word devil as well which is why I wouldn't use it. I like Devon on a girl as well, I just slightly prefer it on a boy.
