The post about Mary got me thinking about John. There seemed to be a lot of people who disliked Mary for being so overly common through the ages and then others who made comments about Jane being in the same boat. I've seen a few times where people point to the whole "Jane Doe" thing which got me wondering if they'd feel the same way about John (since of course there's also the "John Doe" thing). I have never liked this name but I've got really nice associations now and would consider it for honoring purposes (albeit more likely in the middle spot).

So, what are your opinions on the name John? Does it suffer in the same as Mary and Jane? Too ho-hum and boring? And for those who like one but not the other(s), why?
