It's pretty common here to see someone say they don't like a name because they've known a person or people with the name that they didn't like. I myself hate Laura, which most think is a beautiful, classic name, because of a horrid Laura that I knew. I remember when I was told that many people think of Melanie as trashy. I stated that I couldn't understand why, and then was told it's because of Melanie Griffith. I remember someone once saying that they don't like my name, Janice, because they couldn't stand Janice Dickinson. Nobody seems to object too much when people hate names due to personal or celebrity associations, so I don't see why an association with a cartoon character should be any different.
