Thanks for the suggestions :)I really like Rose Adrienne and Rose Amy. I seem to remember someone here liking Rose Amy as a double FN or as some combination (Roseamie...) and I've liked these 2 together ever since!

oh come on now...don't let a silly little cartoon ruin Ursula for you! The Little Mermaid was my favorite Disney movie growing up but I STILL manage to love Ursula :)

Ah, well....(m)It's pretty common here to see someone say they don't like a name because they've known a person or people with the name that they didn't like. I myself hate Laura, which most think is a beautiful, classic name, because of a horrid Laura that I knew. I remember when I was told that many people think of Melanie as trashy. I stated that I couldn't understand why, and then was told it's because of Melanie Griffith. I remember someone once saying that they don't like my name, Janice, because they couldn't stand Janice Dickinson. Nobody seems to object too much when people hate names due to personal or celebrity associations, so I don't see why an association with a cartoon character should be any different.

because a cartoon is just that.... a cartoon. It's not a real life person with real life character flaws - it's a made up person with imaginary character flaws. Maybe that shouldn't make a difference but to me it does. I think that's all people are saying. It's a two-way street = sometimes people don't understand why someone dislikes a name, just as sometimes people don't understand how someone could like a name. I think most people here were simply trying to point out that a negative character reference, even if it's universal, doesn't always mean that such a reference is impossible to overlook. And like Ludwig said, someone's gotta fight for poor lil' Ursula! She never asked to become a villainous name :)

Hmmm my inclination to stick up for Ursula against the seawitch association is kind of because it doesn't have a fighting chance if people don't. Sort of Affirmative Action ish. lol

Bless you for that. It gives me hope. :-)
