Except to add that as somebody else pointed out, it's a name that goth wannabe types like to give themselves.
It's not as strongly a "black" name as Ebony though. In the US, a white girl named Ebony would really stick out. I'm told it's different in Australia and England.
Anyway, Ebony is not longer at all popular. It had its day in the eighties then it sank.
