Hmmm the only Ebony I knew was black but to me it was always a name that could work on anyone. But I thought the same about Raven. Maybe because the first one I met had red hair. But you are right about goth wannabes using it as their names. The only one that seems more common is Lilith. Oh and I heard they like to use Seraphina or Seraphine as well.
