Honestly? If I came across that situation in real life I'd think to myself (never to the their faces), "Wow. That's silly. They don't even know Eli is short for Elijah."I know that's not true of you. You are thoughtfully going through the process and have a different opinion on Eli / Elijah than I do. I get that. I'm just letting you know what I would be thinking if I were to come across that situation. So it's up to you if the silent musings of a picky namenerd bother you or not. Your call.

Ack. I'm the silly one. And I'm a namenerd. The general public hasn't got a chance without the database handy.Is the OP pronouncing it "EE-lee" like Elie Wiesel? That might help to keep it separate from Elijah.
