Eli?
I know I asked something similar in the past. But I just can't shake how much I love Eli for a first name. I just do. I always loved the name Eli and Elijah. Now my husbands middle name is Elijah and my Son Javan's middle name is Elijah. Now to me even though Eli and Elijah are related. They are still completely different names. And not everyone knows someones middle name. If you check the database Eli is it's own free standing name aside from Elijah which is also it's own free standing name. So they aren't the same name. They just are close as names.
So would it really be that bad if I had a son in the future and named him Eli for his first name?
Be as blunt and honest as possible. Because I really want your opinions. I just can't help that I love the name. I don't want to be distastful in my name choices. I just love this name as a first name is all.

Well, in theory it wouldn't be a big deal since mns don't get used much in daily life, but don't you think your second son might be bothered a bit by having a name so close to his big brother's middle name?
I do like Eli, btw.

I do think Eli can stand on it's own as a name, and I think it's fine that your DH and DS have Elijah as mn. You can still use Eli in my opinion. Although, Jacob Elijah and Javan Elijah are so similar that you wouldn't want Eli's name to be completely unrelated. I guess you could give him a J middle name or something.
Although, many people are going to assume Eli is short for something, either Elijah, Elisha, or some form of Elliot.
I think it's fine. If it were Elijah and Elijah I, a random stranger, would be a little disappointed, but I actually sort of like the linkedness of Eli as a fn and Elijah as a MN.
Plus Eli is a pretty cool name. I think it sounds good with Javan too. They're both kind of sharp and modern with prominent long vowels.

Hm, that would be a little too close for me. I wouldn't look down on someone for doing it, but I wouldn't choose to do it myself.
That said, I think you might be able to get away with it a little easier if Eli was short for something else.
Javan Elijah and Elias ______
Eliakim _______
Eligio ______
Eligius _______
Or even something where Eli is not as obvious a nickname like
Cornelius nn Eli
Elliot nn Eli
Baudelio nn Eli
I don't know, maybe those are too far-fetched.
What about a nickname from a first and middle name
E_____ Linus nn Eli
E_____ Liber nn Eli
E_____ Lionel nn Eli
Like anything?

Honestly? If I came across that situation in real life I'd think to myself (never to the their faces), "Wow. That's silly. They don't even know Eli is short for Elijah."
I know that's not true of you. You are thoughtfully going through the process and have a different opinion on Eli / Elijah than I do. I get that. I'm just letting you know what I would be thinking if I were to come across that situation.
So it's up to you if the silent musings of a picky namenerd bother you or not. Your call.

I don't think that would be horrible, but I wouldn't do that if I were you. Sorry! :) Eli and Elijah are not only related, but so very close to each other.
I'm a bit biased in this subject, though: my oldest sister's middle name is Maria and my middle name is Marjaana - related names. It has always bothered me a little, even though it's just a middle name and not many people know them. I still know.
