I've always liked it. When I was about 6 or 7 there was a Marianne in my class at school, and she was a very pleasant person. I was sorry when she left. No clue what mn she had, if any, but she left me with a good impression which not even Sense & Sensibility could destroy! You could build on the Frenchness of it and use Marianne Louise or Marianne Laurence or Marianne Solange. Or go retro-Anglo and try something like Marianne Dinah, Marianne Cecily, Marianne Georgina, Marianne Barbara, Marianne Clara ...

I like Marianne. It's very sweet and unassuming. It's refreshing because I never see it anymore.

Marianne is lovely to me because of all the sailor song associations. I think it's a lovely name on its own, too.ps. If you're interested, listen to "Sailor Song" by Regina Spektor. It's kind of a play on the old sailor tales with women named Marianne.

I love Marianne. It's so much better than Mary Ann for some reason.

Marianne is okay, but to me it sounds a bit dated??

I found out today that a Swedish celeb (somewhat) who had a baby in April named her daughter Marianne. I was actually going to post this.
I don't like the name at all, and it feels very weird to hear it on a baby. I actually thought it was a joke first and that they were just calling her Marianne until they had decided her real name. That's how weird I think it is.

I have to run but I had to say how refreshing Marianne is. Unapologetically sweet and feminine, with a dash of French romance. I had a roommate once who wanted to name a dd Lise Marianne ("LEE-zuh") and it has stuck with me for years. (I must give her a call . . . . )
