Metrodora?Wowee. Metrodora is awesome! At first glance I thought it was going to mean gift of the city. But mother's gift is too good to be true. I know it's intended to convey the best of "mother's gift," but I keep thinking of some annoying woman guilting her children to death. "I was in labor for 33 hours bringing you into the world. Some mother's gift I get. You never call, you never write. . . . " That, or some prissy woman with a spoiled brat; her "gift" to the rest of us. By the way, Iris Leocadia is top notch. :-D

Yeah, it is a bit overbearing of a meaning. It should be sweet but I get that same voice in my head too! Still, I love the name. I came a cross a lot of old Slavic men named Metro when I worked in the mason's archives, and was so thrilled by it. Metro is one of my top-notch guilty pleasures. Also Leocadia makes pretty much anything a star, she's so glam ain't she?

AW I forgot about Mary-Iris! Love that! All of these are fun and twinkly. Iris Metrodora is such a punk. Iris Leocadia is the prom queen, Iris Monday is like stargirl, and Iris Arethusa is - wow the new foreign exchange student whose accent no one can get enough of. Awesome.

Iris Philippa - HMMM.
Iris Ceridwen - Wow, good! Iris makes me like a lot of names I don't normally like.
Iris Martina - Cool, dark. I wonder if Martine might be a bit better? Maybe not.
Iris Dominique - I feel as though I may have crossed this off of Dracotorix's list too quickly.
Iris Hannelore - Cool, dark.
Iris Lucasta - Works well, Lucasta illuminates Iris nicely.
Iris Hildegard - YES!
Iris Naomi - Solid.
Iris Juliette - Quite pretty.
Iris Angelica - Oh very good!
Iris Micheline - Good call! Micheline is a tough one to grab and a tough one to pair when you do.

Iris Martine is really lovely!! I'm not actually a Martina fan but I thought it sounded nice enough with Iris.I sort of unexpectedly love Iris Dominique :)I really love Hildegard in a GP sort of way. I just think it's such a cool namesake and I love the nn Hilde on its own. I find Iris Hildegard rather charming and have penciled it in as a combo on my own long list.I normally find Naomi a bit bland (although pretty) but Iris Naomi has a such a light, lilty sound I had to include it.I secretly adore Micheline, even though I've heard it's a pretty stale French name
Oh, and I was also thinking that Iris Leora/Iris Liora would be quite pretty :)

Gutsy combos! ~~slaps forhead~~ Why didn't I think of Iris Frederica? Iris Dragoslava makes me think, "Iris the Dragon Slayer!" :-D How cool is that? Iris Richenza is ready to go out dancing while Iris Aloisia keeps everyone waiting while she finishes setting ringlets in her hair. But you are toying with us, with Iris Grace. I know you.

I'm still not sold on that one. Maybe it needs a third one. I was playing with phonetics while making these combos - notice the treatment of Ri in Iris Richenza, and of i and s in Iris Aloisia. And something about Iris Grace keeps me hangin' round. I think the two quick S-sound endings are surprising and tricky, and in these two names are maybe the two most different ways you can treat r[vowel][s sound]. Maybe. I dunno. Plus it's really dark purple, almost black, and light pretty pink to me, so it's sort of punk-rocky to me synesthetically. But yeah, I dunno.Iris Dragoslava is a tweaked version of what I consider one of my old masterpieces, Isis Dragoslava. >>;

OK I'm trying to narrow them down and here are my comments for the remaining 33:Iris Wren - this is very sweet.
Iris Marguerite - Nice place for Marguerite here. Marguerite is trickier to pair than one might imagine.
Iris Andromeda - I like this, they're both a little merciless.
Iris Aurelia - Iris ties Aurelia down enough to make this combo really work. Each name exposes different things about the other.
Iris Jocasta - Good match for Jocasta.Iris Coralie - Sweet.
Iris Calanthe - Very beautiful!
Iris Catherine - One of the few times I like Catherine in the middle. This is interesting enough to keep.
Iris Delphine - Good. I considered this myself. I think Iris goes well with smooth, sort of plasticy names.
Iris Marigold - This one is very good. It has like fifty colors in it and is both sturdy and fanciful.Iris Margaret - Nice, but Margaret's usually nice.
Iris Maria - I can't resist a Maria combo, and this is so beautiful.
Iris Pascale - Noice. Spunky.
Iris Cassiopeia - Pretty good. Might be a little too Interesting, kwim?

My favorites:Iris Matilda - ah yes, naturally.
Iris Persephone - the greek instinct! see my comments to Dracotorix. :P
Iris Penelope - ^. I like Persephone a tad more though. Eggs Iris on more. Penelope is more of a yes-man.
Iris Myfanwy - Hmmm, cool.
Iris Cordelia - Good! A good little garden of sounds here.
Iris Ottoline - I almost like this... almost... I want to, they both rattle nicely like jostled ceramic pots... maybe I will.
Iris Winifred - Lovely folded dress for Iris.
Iris Calanthe - Lovely SWOOPING PROM DRESS for Iris.
Iris Parthenope - this one is more disciplined, sort of. A little less badass and more mature.
Iris Imelda - oh of course! I was searching for I I's.
Iris Natalie - hmmmm. Iris is good for Natalie
Iris Clothilde - Iris trips in her clogs.
Iris Genevieve - Very lush.
Iris Deirdre - Nice i's and r's. Iris pushes her glasses up her nose and frowns.
Iris Maeve - This is the same as Iris Grace to me, but a little more tied down and mature. Maybe moreso than I'd like to be.
