Amos
What are some opinions of Amos? I have to admit, it is one of my favorite male names. Certainly top-ten. The problem is, some people can't shake its similarity to the word anus. Personally, I don't find it too big of a problem to dismiss it, but big enough of an association to one's backside to consider Asa instead. I'm curious to hear some more thoughts on this problematic yet seductive name. I think I love it enough to forget the anus jokes.

Wow. I never would have put the two together.
I like it. Very spunky. I love Asa, and do prefer that, but both names are lovely.
I knew an Amos. Not a very nice guy, which I think perhaps is why I only like the name, not love it. I can't rmemeber him ever getting Anus though.

*sings* Cellophane, Mr. Cellophane / Shoulda been my name, / Mr. Cellophane...
John C. Reilly as Amos Hart in the musical Chicago is the first thing that comes to mind. I love the look of Amos, but dislike it's sound.

I had never thought of it being similar to anus EVER! I still don't think it is actually. Amos is a great name, I like it a lot. I would personally love to see it used on a child these days, that would be fantastic.
Such a great name! And I've never thought of how close it is to anus. Drat. But you're probably right, once some idiot kid makes the link, it's history. Darn it all.
I love the name Asa, but I have the same backside issues with the possible mispronunciation of the name. I think Amos is a cute name and great for when he is an old man :)
I kinda like it!
It makes me think of a Jewish wacky scientist.

haha!
Best vision of Amos I've ever seen

Lol :)
Neither Amos nor Asa have ever been used much here, so I don't have any associations with either of them. I certainly don't think of backsides! But they're both quite nice-sounding names, and Amos has quite a friendly, cuddly feel.
I don't think of anus at all. I do think of Famous Amos and the chocolate chip cookies, yum. But that's not a bad reference at all.
I don't care for Amos. I don't know why. There's nothing wrong with it that I can see. I love Asa, though. It's so strong and piercing.
I heard a name in a BBC drama, "Elizabeth R." I loved it enough to search through the credits to make sure how to spell it. Amias, "AY-mee-us," was the result. I've loved it for years, but I fear people would only hear the girl's name Amy in it. *sigh* If only we could plug in our impression of a name . . . . It wouldn't work the other way around. I wouldn't be subject to anyone else's preferences. Just one way. If only . . . .

I ahave to say that I agree. I don't care for Amos, but I don't dislike it either.
wow I didn't even think of that
but I guess that does make sense. Huh. I actually think Asa is more evocative of the tookus area than Amos. Especially if people mispronounce it as "ASS-aw" (which I did for many years, totally innocently, I thought of it like 'NASA minus the N')
Personally I'd vote for Amos. It has more personality and warmth.

Chocolate chip cookies ...
Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies is the first association for me closely followed by anus. There were some friends of mine (married couple with little girls named Addison and Ainsley) who thought about naming a son Amos but, in the end, named their son Asa. I quite like Asa and do much prefer it over Amos but not because of the associations. Amos would be a bolder choice but ... I'm not that bold.
