I love Asherah! I'd definitely spell it with the -h ending, just because I've always seen it like that in OT references. I'd pronounce it ah-SHAIR-uh. I don't think it's close enough to Ashley to ruin the Biblical classiness, and I'd definitely recommend the name!

according to several sourcesit's pronounced uh-SHEER-ah and not ah-SHAIR-ah....may I ask for your source, just to make sure?

You can pronounce it however you want, but the correct pronunciation has the stress on the second syllable. It'd be somewhat like naming a child Maria and expecting everyone to say it MARE-ee-uh. It's a hassle and historically incorrect.
