Asherah
Just wondering what you think of it. Would you spell it Asherah or Ashera? How do you pronounce it? Is it too close to Ashley?

Hate it. Would always think of the Canaanite goddess who drove women to prostitution.

I love Asherah! I'd definitely spell it with the -h ending, just because I've always seen it like that in OT references. I'd pronounce it ah-SHAIR-uh. I don't think it's close enough to Ashley to ruin the Biblical classiness, and I'd definitely recommend the name!

according to several sourcesit's pronounced uh-SHEER-ah and not ah-SHAIR-ah....may I ask for your source, just to make sure?

do you think I'd get away withpronouncing it ASH-eh-rah? I prefer that pronunciation...

You can pronounce it however you want, but the correct pronunciation has the stress on the second syllable. It'd be somewhat like naming a child Maria and expecting everyone to say it MARE-ee-uh. It's a hassle and historically incorrect.

Neat name- I've never heard this one before :) It has a nice meaning. I like it.Asherah looks more complete to me than Ashera. I generally prefer the h on the end (Norah to Nora; Tovah to Tova; Hannah to Hanna etc). It's only too close to Ashley if you already have one. Otherwise its just fine.
