In Britain Veronica is very much (though not exclusively) a Catholic girls' name, though it doesn't seem to have been used much since the '50s. On the other hand, it's not going to borne by every other little girl and is nice, though nms. I prefer Verity.
I think of Thackeray's Amelia Sedley when I hear the name Amelia, but I don't like the "meal" sound. Emilia is prettier imo, and I prefer Emilia to Veronica. Milly seems to be a nn for both.
To cut the waffle, I think I'd go with Veronica. It's more distinctive. Roni/Vroni are nns sometimes used. I've even heard Vera (for a TV character called Veronica).
