I like it too - because it has a certain old-fashioned dignity and historical weight about it - and is severe/almost ugly. I know that sounds like a negative thing, but to me it's not! There are so many cutesy, breezy boy names these days that I appreciate the counterbalance of a name like Arthur. LOVE Arthur James. Do agree that the Artie/Art nns are awful.
