Karissa is also an alternate transliteration of Charissa from Greek.

This is turning into a "the more you know!" post. *g* I had no idea. I thought it was simply an alternate/modern version of Carissa.

Agreed and don't forget it's the standard spelling in Poland, Scandinavia, Hungary and Russia. There's a world of difference between Karolina and Kourtney, Kloe, Kasey, Konner and Karter which were created with a K just to look "cute."

There's a bit of a pronunciation difference, too, if you're in the states. Carolina will be pronounced like the state (Care-ah-line-ah), while Karolina is more likely to be pronounced Care-uh-leen-ah.
