I don't think it matters what most people think. It is a classic name, and anyone familiar with Jane Austen will appreciate the spelling! I prefer Eleanor myself (Elinor seems too clipped and casual to me...I see Eleanor as being more classy and 'full'), but both are nice spellings of a beautiful name.
