Elinor
I've always loved the name, and especially this spelling. It just seems much classier to me. However, recent comments have made me begin to doubt myself. I'm afraid that the most Americans are unfamiliar with this spelling, and would see it as a trendy alternative to the spelling of Eleanor. What do you guys think?
It's not too high on my list, so it's not much of a problem. However, I do adore the nicknames Nell and Nelly, so it might get higher.
TIA.

There is a possiblity some will see it as a kre8tyv spelling of Eleanor, but I'm not really concerned with those people's opinions (they haven't read "Sense & Sensibility" after all, lol). Nora is my favorite nn, but I prefer it as a name on it's own. I also like Ella, Ellie, and Nell, but I see Nellie/Nelly in a negative light (for a couple of different reasons) so it's not a favorite. Eleanor and Elinor are actually neck-and-neck for me but I'm very traditional when it comes to name-spelling so I'd probably go with Eleanor. ;)
I like both spellings, but I don't think most Americans would be unfamiliar. I'm American and I've seen that spelling just as often if not more often in fact. Although I'm not a normal American... :)
I much prefer Elinor to Eleanor
It just looks nicer to me. I would have thought that most people would be at least aware of the existence of Elinor as a legit name, so I doubt there'd be problems :)

I don't think it matters what most people think. It is a classic name, and anyone familiar with Jane Austen will appreciate the spelling! I prefer Eleanor myself (Elinor seems too clipped and casual to me...I see Eleanor as being more classy and 'full'), but both are nice spellings of a beautiful name.
Ditto everything.
