I met a girl yesterday who's father is a minister and he and his wife wanted a biblical name for their daughter so they chose to use the Greek word for 'grace' (the New Testament having been written mostly in Greek). So instead of using the original Greek spelling that would end up looking something like Xaqis, her parents chose to spell it how it's pronounced: Karis (Kahr'-ece).
Karis said yesterday that although she's thrilled that her parents didn't use the Xaqis spelling (or even
Charis) and chose the simplest spelling possible she still found that people would would misspell it or mispronounce it calling her
Clarissa,
Carissa or even
Karen!
So WDYTO Karis? Do you like the Xaqis spelling better?
I really like her name although I almost like the Welsh name
Carys better.
