Maika, WDYT?+ pronounciation of Jack
There's a girl in one of my classes from France named Maika, pronounced like Mike+ a. I really like the sound of it, but not the spelling. WDYT? Any spelling suggestions? And another question. I really love the name Jack pronounced in English. The problem is that I'm from Sweden and if I would use Jack it would be pronounced Ya-ck (Ya as in Yaya). I hate it! Do you think it would be weird to use the English pronounciation? I realise that the child would probably have to correct everybody all the time. What would you do?

Majka, Meike, Maike, Maaike, MaycaAbout Jack, I don't think it'll be too problemation to use the English pron. Overhere Jack is pronounced SYAHK in Dutch but I think people will get used to JAK pretty fast, especially since they know the English pron from TV probably. I knwo a guy named John, English pron. and everyone used the English pron even though the Dutch pronounciation is ZYON/SYON. I guess it'd be pretty much the same in Sweden. edit to check hyperlinks box

First of all I have to say that Maika looks just like my last name with one letter missing :-) As for the spelling I'd try Micah.
And I think Jack is such a well-known name that you won't have any problem with the pronounciation.

ditto.

But Jack isn't the common way of saying it where she lives! There may be some problems at first but eventually people would get used to it. Maybe a mn?

People in my area normally would pronounce it the same way as she said (yack). But since it is common in US TV-shows and so on most people are aware of the English pronouciation. Since I'm not Swedish I don't know if it's the same there.

Maika: maybe Myca, Mika (though I do realize that it'd be pronounced like "Mee-ka" in sweden...), Meika ?Jack: I don't think it'd be a big problem. People will usually get used to the name eventually and I'm don't think your son would have a hard time with it.
