This is a name spotting. I overheard a conversation today at a children's museum between two mothers about one's daughter's name. Her little girl (very young, under a year) was named Georgie. She explained that her father's name was George (so the baby's grandfather) and he didn't have any sons so that's why she named her daughter Georgie. I thought the sentiment was really sweet. Even though I think a more feminine form of the name George would have worked just as well, like Georgia or Georgiana, Georgette, Georgina, etc... Although technically I suppose Georgie is unisex as it works as a nickname for any number of George names, male and female.

I thought the name was cute, if not my style and I think it's better as a nickname. It was kind of refreshing to hear though, not a name you encounter every day, especially on a baby.
