I'm sorry but I find Monet pretentious as a first name. It's also a huge thing to live up to - a bit like naming your child Shakespeare. Imagine if the child were anything less than a genius at artwork. And even if s/he were a genius at artwork, the name would seem contrived and become the butt of many jokes.

As is usually the case, a girl could carry off the name more easily, so I'd prefer it to be feminine :-)

If you do want to honour the artist and that's your reason for the name, something like Claudia would be more usable. If it's just the sound sound you like, Monet would make a decent middle name.

I like it, doubt that I'd actually use it though. Isn't there an actress Monet Mazur? She's very pretty so the name conjures up very feminine and delicate images for me.

I see Monet (or Monay, Monae) used a lot on lower income babies where I work, especially as a mn. It's just not "classy" at all to me. I wonder if the people who use it (esp. those who butcher the spelling) even realize it's the last name of an artist. :b

Boys names aren't cute on girls to me, but trashy... And Monet is a surname to me...

I don't like it at all for a girl. It'd be fine in the mn spot, though, if it's used to honour the painter/the surname Monet. It wouldn't be as bad as a boy's fn but I'd still prefer it as a mn.

Honestly? I think it's rather immature. Sorry. But maybe because I associate it with my Monet/Impressionist phase in high school.

I don't care for it. It's too surname-y for my liking, and it's masculine to me - not at all pretty or feminine.
