I'm sorry but I find Monet pretentious as a first name. It's also a huge thing to live up to - a bit like naming your child Shakespeare. Imagine if the child were anything less than a genius at artwork. And even if s/he were a genius at artwork, the name would seem contrived and become the butt of many jokes.
As is usually the case, a girl could carry off the name more easily, so I'd prefer it to be feminine :-)
If you do want to honour the artist and that's your reason for the name, something like Claudia would be more usable. If it's just the sound sound you like, Monet would make a decent middle name.
