Better or worse than Hugh? I like Hugo for the author (Victor), and I think it just looks and sounds better than Hugh.
Hugh is also somewhat out because it is too rhyme-y with the surname, but Hugo isn't as noticable. (The LN is four syllables and the -yoo sound is at the end.)
I got so many wonderful suggestions in my last thread, but this one is standing out at the moment.
