Personally I very much prefer Hugh. Hugh is a name that I absolutely love. Whereas Hugo I just dislike for no real reason. It brings to mind an ugly hunchbacked villain, along with Igor, haha.
I am a little hesitant about the sound of Hugh when saying it repeatedly, but generally I like the sound. I LOVE the meaning of Hugh / Hugo though : )
That said, Hugh does very much rhyme with your future surname, which is sad.
