I've always like the name
Lucia and epecially after I found out that a close relative had this name, but recently I have been told that this departed relative's name was pronounced loo-ch-eye-nuh (like
Lou +
China the country), something so unlike any of the pronunciations I've seen on this site! So this sent me wondering why it was pronounced this way and if it is a common way of pronouncing
Lucia.
Now this relative's heritage was Italian, specifically Sicily so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the strange pronounciation. Any ideas as to why her name was pronounced this way would be very helpful and appreciated.
