Mabel just doesn't do it for me, but
Maybelle hits the spot. It looks prettier, it sounds prettier (I enunciate the final syllable more, when with
Mabel it sounds like MAY-bl), and I have better associations with it.
And because I love names like
Maybelle and
Opaline, I just can't say no to
Maybelline. I think it's just delightful--but remember, I'm the one who thinks "That sounds like a hick name" is a compliment. ;)
The TV judge spells her name Mablean, by the way. :(
