[Opinions] Names you are tired of
Are there any names you are sick of hearing, either in real life or in fiction?
Replies
Liam & Noah
Julie/Julia/Giulia. Lovely name but everyone and their uncle seems to be naming their daughter this.
What about Yuliya?
Emma & Emily
Not too sure how to explain this, but anything that sounds like someone tried to write a novel and had everything about the characters in mind except their names, forcing them to choose one of the first decently appealing placeholder names everyone else uses.
Feminine examples: Evelyn, Charlotte, Rose, Chloe, Ella, especially Lily.
Masculine examples: Alexander, Xavier, Luke, Ethan, Matt / Matthew, the dreaded Jake and Jacobs, and so on!

In real life, Liam, Olivia/Oliver, and Layla/Leila/Lilah need a nice long break. More controversially not every family practicing Islam needs to name a child Muhammad. It is the most common name in the world, and I've heard it so, so much. I know it has religious significance, but there are lots of other lovely Arabic names that could use some love and have nice meanings.
In romance novels, I'm tired of men with one syllable names like Trent, Shane, Jack, etc. I'm also tired of characters with names that are incongruous with their background unless the story at least acknowledges that it is weird. If a story is set in the 1800s and the heroine is named Everly, the author better have a good explanation.

Though indeed common and in some cases overused, I personally think Lucy is still a fun name

I don't like Liam either. A cheap shortened version of William.
I don't think I'd mind it so much if it were more unusual.
But it's like the new Noah. Its character seems to have been bleached out by overexposure.

Elizabeth, Katherine, Isabel, Lily (and all Lily variations), Charlotte, Mary, Alexander, Sébastien, Jasper, Luna, Olivia, Emma, Emily, James, Theodore, Josephine, Theodora, Blair, Taylor, and I detest most gender neutral names. I'm sure there are more I'm just not thinking of at the moment.
