Selma is kind of dull.
Pernila sounds unfriendly and uptight.
Petra is not my style.
Vera sounds like a type of poisonous plant. I prefer Aloe for whatever reason.
Fanny just reminds me of the slang, and it sounds childish.
Amalie is okay but the spelling is misleading. I do prefer Amelie and Amelia.
Lorraine is better as MN in my opinion.
Zelda is lovely, but I always think of the character. If I were to use it, people would assume it's for nerding-out purposes. I do happen to to like videogames.
Elvira sounds like a wicked witch - not in a good way. Lucinda sounds like a witch, but a kind witch.
Maude is understated and kind of nice. Wouldn't use it, though.
Lionel sounds nasal.
Maurice is bland.
Peter is respectable.
Roscoe sounds edgy and cool, but also like an older guy. Strange.
Eben is better as a NN.
Horatio is not to my taste, but it's much better than Horace.
Saul is okay. It's kind of blank. I prefer Paul or Raul.
Frankie is a nice NN. I wouldn't use it as a legal name.
Ferdinand sounds really serious and dutiful - in a good way.
Lonnie or Lonny is a nice NN. I've grown fond of it.

Pernila - prefer Pernell or Priscilla
Petra - better than Peta, not as good as Petrina

Lorraine - it's all right. I once met a male Lorraine, who was named after the part of France that someone in the family had fought in during one or other World War. He went by Lorrie.
Zelda - trying too hard to be startlingly different
Elvira - OK for someone else. I wouldn't use it, but it would be a good way of achieving something like Vera as a nn.
Maude - I like it; so much better than Claud. I don't think the -e helps: Maud is fine.
Lionel - King of beasts? Rather pretentious!
Maurice - very nice if pronounced like Morris. The French pronunciation is awkward in English.
Peter - excellent; timeless classic; has worked very well for my son!
Roscoe - gorgeous etymology, but I don't like lnfns
Eben - a nn, and I really don't enjoy Ebenezer. Frequently used in Afrikaans, where it works pretty well
Horatio - a one-owner name, best left to Nelson. Too easy to change it to Horrid, Horrible etc. Fine as a mn, and so is Horatia.
Saul - much prefer Paul
Frankie - awful. Stick to beautiful, restrained Francis or, if necessary, Frank.
Ferdinand - the Bull. Good for domestic animals - Furry Ferdy?
Lonnie or Lonny - Lonnie, because of Lonnie Donegan - anyone who can make the charts with a song called Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour is worth commemorating. He took his name from a blues musician named Alonzo; he was actually Anthony James. Great man!
