[Opinions] Math and Names, I guess
Hey y'all, I might have a bit of an unusual request.
I'm in love with math and have been joking with friends about naming my firstborn daughter Delta for a few years now. Recently, I came across the name Linnea, which I also love for non-math related reasons, but since it sounds like "linear," I added it to the joke as Delta's sister.
I won't actually name my children these names, but I do enjoy finding math-related names. Do you happen to know of any others? (:

I love Delta.
Otto is eight in Italian, and there are plenty in my family tree
Well, there are the Latin number names (Primus, Secundus and so on), and there are Japanese and West African names that describe birth order. I like thinking about words that sound like good names, though, and I think Abcissa, Array, and Meridian could work.
I just remembered Sarah Palin named one of her children Trig
Unless you explained it or were a math teacher or something, I don't think many people would make the connection. You could use names after famous mathematicians or names that start with Math like Matthew, Mathias, etc. Norm
Max
Dot
Tally
Ray
Addy/Addie
VennMaybe names that have mathematical kinds of meanings:
Joseph "he will add"
Zayd "to increase"
Secundus "second"
Trey "three"
Quinta "fifth"
Hemming "shape"
Rupa "shape, form"
Grant "great, large"
Vaughn "little"
Cash
Hana (one)
Una (one)
Mona (one)
Octavius / Octavia (eight)
Nona (ninth)
Septimus (seventh)
Primo (first)
Amit (infinite)
Decima (tenth)
Ensio (first)
Baylor (measuring stick)
Miles
These work great. Thanks!
What a wonderful list!
Linnea is cute, I've never seen it beforeNot sure it counts, but I remember a news story about a woman who wanted to marry Tetris (as in, the game). She had re-named herself Fractal.
I pronounce Linnea lin-NAY-uh, so it doesn't sound like "linear" to me. I know a Linnea and a Lynnea and both pronounce it that way.Theta charted in 1907.
That makes sense. It works for me either way.
Tha's awesome. Thank you (:
Septimus, Septimo, Septima, Segundo, Secundus, Sixto, Sixtus, Basemath, Octavian, Minos, Addie, Dividina, Equilla, Numeria

Fun! I don’t know how well any of these work for you, some might be a bit of a stretch, but here’s what I can think of:
Tess / Tessa (tessellations)
Tally (tally charts)
Seven
Addy
Flo (flowcharts)
Venn
Fibonacci
Gio (geometry)
Victor (vector)
These work great! Thank you (:
