I was reflecting on
Doris again the last few days, which is the guilty pleasure of mine. I think it's cute and I predict that it will eventually make a comeback
someday.That made me also think of
Dorcas because they are sometimes compared. Indeed, I saw mentions of the other name in both of the comment sections of their respective pages. Stating
Doris is the better of the two.
Dorcas obviously has dork contained in the name, and it has a clunky way about it. But is Dorcus really so dorky? Is it as bad as we portray it to be? For me it's mostly just the clunkiness of the sound.
There had been an ancestor named
Dorcas in my genealogy I found. Born in 1656 in Newport,
Rhode Island. She was my 8th great grandmother. I still don't like the name, but I've softened to it ever so slightly since finding this out.
