It’s not a bad name. It feels very dated, but it doesn’t sound bad. I’d probably go with Barbara Chloe or Barbara Elaine.

I think it's hopelessly ugly. It reminds me of BBQ, barbed wire, and, most prominently, barbarians. The English nicknames are dreadful as well - there's airheaded Babs, aggressive Barb, and Barbie which is just... Barbie. I'm fine with Polish Basia.

My grandmother changed her name from Frances to Barbara because she felt the latter was just so glamorous. I personally don't see the glamour, but it is a decent name.

My husband also has a grandmother named Barbara, and she's a lovely lady. If we ever end up with two daughter, the second will have Barbara as a middle name. I am leaning towards Philomena Barbara at the moment.

I used to hate it but my friend’s friend’s name is Barbara so it’s kind of grown on me to see someone my age (early 20s) wear it. But it does sound like barbarian and I don’t think “bar bar” is flattering.

Vintage and lovely. It's my favorite name when I was 14. I like its sound and how it's written. It's beautiful.

My mom is Barbara Elaine. Without the association, I honestly don’t think I would care for the name Barbara. She doesn’t have any brothers. Her sister is Sharon Dianne.

Honestly I never got how Barbara was popular in the first place. It sounds like the word “barbarian” and the sound is just unflattering in general.

I love Barbara, and Barbara Eloise is one of my favorite Barbara combos. I like that the name is saintly and somewhat pedestrian (at least here in the U.S.). I not very guiltily love Babe as a nickname.
